Thomas Gately Briody - the man behind the myth
Thomas Gately Briody spent ten years working as a television journalist
in Iowa, Connecticut, Rhode Island and Boston, winning a slew of awards
for investigative reporting, including an Emmy. Along the way, he graduated
with honors from the University of Iowa College of Law, briefly practiced in
Minnesota. In 1989 he made Rhode Island his adopted home.
Indeed, his love for the Ocean State, with its natural beauty, rich ethnic
history and raucous political culture, was the spark for the Michael Carolina
mystery series.
In 1993, Tom began to put journalism aside and turned his attention to fiction
writing. At the same time, he opened a law practice, concentrating in personal
injury civil rights and criminal law. His short story, FIRST, won Boston
Magazines's short fiction award. ROGUE'S ISLES, the first Carolina mystery,
was published in 1995. It was followed by ROGUE'S JUSTICE (1996)and
ROGUE'S WAGER (1997). The fourth Michael Carolina mystery, ROGUE'S REGATTA,
was published in 1999.
When Tom isn't writing or practicing law, he enjoys sailing, fly fishing, visiting
Rhode Island's restaurants. (You may want to check

Rhode Island Restaurants). Tom and his lovely wife have two beautiful daughters and
an adorable son. They make their home in southern Rhode Island.
